Green Bay AUstin Straubel International Airport Launches Strategic Planning Studies to Support Community and Future Growth

Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) has partnered with two firms to conduct two major strategic studies designed to guide future growth, ensure responsible development and align the airport’s plans with the evolving needs of the region.

The Terminal Master Plan Study will evaluate future terminal facility needs and passenger amenities, incorporating feedback from a diverse group of community members, business partners and airport tenants. The goal is to identify opportunities for improvement and modernization while ensuring that expansion plans are both data-driven and financially responsible. The community groups started this work in early autumn.

At the same time, the airport has been undertaking a Land Development Plan, which aims to assess GRB’s surrounding properties and identify opportunities that best serve community and neighborhood needs. The plan focuses on aligning with potential developers to create spaces that enhance both airport operations and local economic development.

“These studies are key to ensuring that airports align with the communities they serve,” said GRB Airport Director Marty Piette, A.A.E. “By using data and community input, we can make informed decisions—avoiding overbuilding and minimizing financial waste—while ensuring GRB continues to grow responsibly.”

Together, the studies reflect GRB’s ongoing commitment to integrating strategic data with regional vision. By assessing potential growth scenarios for both the airport and the greater Green Bay area, the airport seeks to position itself as a vital hub for travel, business and development in Northeast Wisconsin.

“Studies like these are cyclic in nature,” said Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “They ensure that the airport—and the land development around it—keep pace with the future needs and wants of our residents and businesses. This is about aligning today’s opportunities with tomorrow’s potential.”

The findings from both the Terminal Master Plan and the Land Development Plan will help GRB prioritize infrastructure, maximize return on investment and continue to serve as a gateway for economic vitality across the region.
