QUICK MARKETING tips and resources for YOUR shop small PROMOTION:

Use hashtags:

  • #SmallBizSat
  • #ShopSmall
  • #SmallBusinessSaturday
  • Use your own branded hashtags, too!

Use geo-tags (add location) on your posts. Tagging your location helps visitors find you through other users' social posts who have also tagged your location.

Create a Facebook event for Small Business Saturday.  If your business is already part of a larger collaborative event, promote the existing event instead. You can share the event as a post on your Facebook page's timeline or invite your Facebook page audience. Learn how here.

Use incentives. If your brand doesn't have incentives or discounts often, this is a great time to get creative. You can create value-add incentives rather than discounts.

We'll share some quick ideas below.

Incentives and promo ideas:
  • Buy X get X free
  • Get X for the price of X
  • Gift certificates or gift cards valued at more than the price paid
  • Raffles
  • Free gift wrapping
  • Double or triple reward points
  • Credit on a future service or offer
  • Exclusive access to a part of your establishment or business that is usually behind-the-scenes only.
  • Exclusive product with purchase or collaborate with another company or vendor(s) for "swag" bags.
  • Exclusive discounts or offers for your most loyal customers. You can set the criteria for dollars spent, events attended, etc. These customers love your brand, it's nice to let them know you appreciate them, too.
  • Discount on day of Shop Small and a returning store visit within 30 or 45 days.
  • Make it an experience. By creating a photo booth, having a special guest or including something unique for shoppers to enjoy (rather than just shopping) you'll be able to make an impression simply by standing out.
  • Not in the retail or restaurant industry? No problem. Use the momentum of Shop Small to create excitement over a new product launch, highlight a new service you're offering or to recruit new employees.
  • Tell your story. Let this be a time to connect with your clients and customers by sharing more about what makes Shop Small special to your brand or business. Remember, this is a great time to gain new prospects, consumers and interest in your entire brand - it's not just one day.
  • Interview your customers. If you have a lot of traffic during this day, recruit an employee or volunteer to capture the excitement and try to interview some of your customers. Be sure to get their permission in writing and use their words to tell your brand story for you.
