SOUP | Support Of Urban Projects
What is SOUP?
SOUP (Support Of Urban Projects) is a forum in which community members can share their ideas for how to enhance the quality of life for residents in our communities. Dinner is served at the forum and a micro-grant from funds collected at the forum is awarded to one individual/organization that attendees voted to receive.
The next SOUP dinner will be held in Spring 2023.
Congratulations to the Deaf Group, last night's SOUP micro-grant recipient! Together, we raised over $2,000 for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing school resource group. Thank you to everyone who joined us and Mayor Eric Genrich and Alderman Brian Johnson for greeting each project and introducing the SOUP dinner.
The Deaf Group provides a positive learning environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students to embrace their diversity, celebrate their deafness, and share themselves with others like them. The group also shares their deaf superpowers with the rest of their schools through videos and bulletin boards. Once a month, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff and students get together for Deaf Group to socialize, learn, and communicate with their small D/HH community.
A special thanks to the other presenting projects:
Howe Community Resource Center
YWCA Women's Empowerment Center
The YWCA of Greater Green Bay is looking to expand the Women’s Empowerment Center downstairs by creating an Express Boutique. The boutique will allow women coming into the facility a more convenient, accessible, and welcoming shopping experience.
Watch Me is a new nonprofit organization that provides platforms for celebrating the abilities of those with disabilities in Wisconsin. The organization is striving to show that everyone with a disability has abilities that should be seen and celebrated.
How does it work?
Community Partnerships, a CYP committee, hosts a dinner featuring soup from local restaurants while three to five grant proposals are presented by community members for projects that will enhance the quality of life in Greater Green Bay. Attendees receive a delicious bowl of soup and the opportunity to vote for which project they want to fund. Each project presenter will receive three minutes to present their proposal, followed by answering three questions from the audience.
Registration for attending is $10, which goes to funding a micro-grant that is given to the chosen proposal. The minimum award for the winning project will be $500 with the potential to receive more depending on attendance.
